Mesathelioma, a cancer of the lining of the lungs caused by asbestos, is one of the hidden industrial disasters of the late twentieth century. Thousands of workers were negligently exposed to asbestos at work and as the disease can take 30 to 40 years to develop are only now realising the consequences.Trade Unions have been very active in securing compensation for victims of mesathelioma and one of the ways of keeping the issue in the public eye in Action Mesathelioma Day.
